Should I repair or replace my water heater?
It depends mostly on age. A unit under eight years old with a failed part is usually worth repairing. Past twelve years, the tank itself is the thing wearing out and a repair buys you very little.
If the tank is leaking from the body rather than a fitting, replacement is the only option.
How long does a water heater last in Tucson?
Hard water shortens tank life here. Expect around eight to twelve years for a conventional tank, less if the anode rod has never been changed.
Flushing the tank annually and replacing the anode rod makes a real difference.
Repair or replace?
A thermocouple, thermostat, or element is worth repairing. A tank leaking from the body is not, and no repair will hold once it has rusted through.
